U.S. Open 2009 First Round Results: Roger Federer Cruises Past Devin Britton, Moves into Second Round

Roger Federer began his quest for a sixth straight U.S. Open title on Monday and the Swiss star had little trouble getting past Devin Britton, beating the American in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 to move into the second round.

Federer, coming off an epic Wimbledon run that ended with his record-setting 15th Grand Slam singles title, took advantage of some sloppy play committed by Britton as the American had 40 unforced errors and nine double faults. As usual, Federer controlled the match with his first serve, wining 82 percent of those put in play.

Federer recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam as he has won Wimbledon six times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
