Kim Clijsters needed less than an hour to get through the first round at the 2009 U.S. Open, crushing Viktoriya Kutuzova in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the second round in New York.
Clijsters dominated the match with a powerful serve that produced seven aces and 17 winners compared to Kutuzova who didn’t have a single ace and managed just seven winners.
Clijsters, the former world’s number one, captured her only Grand Slam singles title at the U.S. Open in 2005 after beating Mary Pierce. She has reached the finals at the French Open twice and the Australian Open once.
