For the second year in a row Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport claimed the Federal Aviation Administration’s distinction as the nation’s busiest.
Based on the number of flights, Atlanta beat out runner-up Chicago O’Hare International Airport by nearly 20,000 flights. 2006 saw Atlanta handle 976,307 flights compared to O’Hare’s 958,643.
The two airports have consistently been the top contenders for the title “Nation’s Busiest Airport.”
Hartsfield-Jackson opened a fifth runaway this past May and reaped the benefits of Atlanta based Delta Air Lines decision to expand their international flights.
Dallas-Fort Worth International was named the nation’s third-busiest after totaling 702,713 flights in 2006.
