Nancy Pelosi Breaks “the marble ceiling” to Become First Female House Speaker
In a statement prepared for the historic day, Democrat Nancy Pelosi declared ‘In this House, we may belong to different parties, but we serve one country.” And so begins the tenure of the nation’s first-ever female speaker of the House.
The significance of the barrier breaker wasn’t lost on the 66-year-old Rep. from San Francisco. Pelosi remarked “For our daughters and granddaughters, today we have broken the marble ceiling.”
Pelosi leads the wave of change in American politics after the recent elections. The Democrats grabbed control of both the House and the Senate after public frustration mounted over the former Republican majority Congress.
