Bill Cowher is expected to announce that he will be stepping down as head football coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.
After Cowher spoke with team owner Dan Rooney on Thursday night the Steelers announced that they would be holding a news conference on Friday at 1 pm EST. While no word about Cowher’s decision was revealed, his resignation had been made known to his assistant coaches.
In his 15 seasons as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers Bill Cowher compiled a 161-99-1 record (including playoffs). The Steelers captured eight division titles, made ten playoff appearances, played in six conference championships, and made to Super Bowl appearances under Cowher’s guidance. In 2005 Cowher captured his first and only Super Bowl ring after the Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks.
