Pakistani troops have reportedly killed at least 40 militants during an offensive in the Khyber Agency, an area near the Afghan border.
According to reports the Pakistani troops were able to destroy several militant bases and captured 43 militants in the operation. Those militants captured were then blindfolded and paraded before a news conference.
Pakistan has upped their efforts against militants in the northwest region of the country, attempting to suppress the activities of insurgents, particularly those of the Lashkar-e-Islam. Militants have held a strong presence in the Khyber region but its top government official Tariq Hayat Khan has said the Pakistani troop offensives “will continue till we achieve our objective and restore the writ of government.”
