U.S. Open 2009 Round 1 Results: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Breezes Past Chase Buchanan and into Second Round

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, still bidding for his first Grand Slam singles title, got is 2009 U.S. Open off to a strong start after blasting Chase Buchanan in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, 6-1. Tsonga needed just over an hour to dispatch the American.

Tsonga hammered eight aces in the match and collected 29 winners while taking advantage of 36 unforced errors committed by Buchanan.

Tsonga’s best finish at a Grand Slam came at the 2008 Australian Open where he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic. His best finish at the U.S. Open has been a third round appearance in 2007 and 2008.
