California Wildfires Continue to Threaten Los Angeles Homes, more than 50 Structures Already Destroyed

Firefighters continue to battle the California wildfires that rage near Los Angeles, attempting to contain the blazes that have already destroyed 53 buildings and continues to threaten 12,000 more. Damage caused by the flames has been estimated at $13 million but that figure is expected to rise significantly.

Suburbs just north of Los Angeles have been evacuated as only 5 percent of the fire has been contained and with the possibility of unpredictable winds sweeping in the direction and strength of the flames could continue to cause problems.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has already declared a state of emergency and urged residents to heed to mandatory evacuations. The fires outside Los Angeles broke on Wednesday in the Angeles National Forest and have been fueled by dry brush.
