NBA Scores from Jan. 5; Dwight Howard, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Kidd, and Dirk Nowitzki lead their teams to wins.

Dwight Howard scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Jameer Nelson had 20 points and the Orlando Magic (20-14) beat the Charlotte Bobcats (9-23) 106-74. The Magic shot 57 percent from the field while holding the Bobcats to just 29 percent. Matt Carroll scored 19 points to lead Charlotte.

Gilbert Arenas had 35 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds and Carol Butler added 27 points as the Washington Wizards (19-13) knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers (15-18) 116-105. The Wizards were behind by 10 after the first quarter but outscored the Clippers 37-18 in the second period and took control of the game. Elton Brand led the Clippers with 29 points and 12 rebounds.

The Toronto Raptors (14-19) handed the Atlanta Hawks (9-21) their eighth straight loss 105-92. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 21 points and Jose Calderon had 12 points and 12 assists. The Raptors shot just under 55 percent from the field. Marvin Williams had 24 points for the Hawks.

Jason Kidd finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists while Vince Carter scored 21 points and the New Jersey Nets (14-18) surged in the fourth quarter to beat the Chicago Bulls (19-14) 91-86. Luol Deng led the Bulls with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Nets won despite shooting just 36 percent from the field.

Kevin Garnett led the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-15) with 22 points and 14 rebounds in their 104-102 overtime win over the Philadelphia 76ers (9-24). Garnett hit the game-winner with a 15-footer at the buzzer. Mark Blount added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota. Kyle Korver led the Bulls with 25 points in the loss.

The Dallas Mavericks (27-7) beat the San Antonio Spurs (23-11) 90-85 for their 13th consecutive game. Dirk Nowitzki scored 36 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Josh Howard had 18 points and 12 boards in the win. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 25 points. San Antonio held an 11 point lead at the half but the Mavericks outscored them 50-34 in the second half.

The Boston Celtics (12-20) had seven players score in double figures in their 128-119 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies (8-26). Wally Szczerbiak had 26 points while Delonte West finished with 16 points and 11 assists for the Celtics. Both teams shot over 56 percent from the field but the Celtics went to the line 10 more times than the Grizzlies. Mike Miller had 24 points and 14 assists for Memphis.

Tracy McGrady continued to light it up, scoring 44 points and 9 rebounds in the Houston Rockets (21-12) 100-86 win over the Utah Jazz (23-10). Dikembe Mutombo grabbed a season high 19 rebounds and added 9 points for the Rockets. Houston took a 10-point advantage into the second quarter and kept the Jazz at bay the rest of the night. Carlos Boozer led Utah with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Drew Gooden scored 31 points and had 16 rebounds as the Cleveland Cavaliers (20-12) beat the Milwaukee Bucks (16-17) 95-86.  LeBron James shot 3-13 on the night for 8 points but he handed out 9 assists in the Cavs win. Michael Redd led the Bucks with 26 points. The Cavs used a 27-12 fourth quarter advantage to erase an 8 point deficit heading into the final quarter.

The Los Angeles Lakers (22-11) built a 23 point lead after three quartes and went on to beat the Denver Nuggets (16-14) 123-104. Smush Parker scored 23 points for the Lakers while Kobe Bryant had just 8 points but handed out 10 assists. Andrew Bynum finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers. Earl Boykins led the Nuggets with 24 points in the loss.

The Phoenix Suns (24-8) held the Miami Heat (13-19) to just 9 points in the fourth quarter and cruised to a 108-80 win. Steve Nash had 22 points and Shawn Marion grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his 11 points for Phoenix. Amare Stoudemire finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenix. Alonzo Mourning led the Heat offense with 15 points.

Stephon Marbury scored 28 points and Eddy Curry added 27 points as the New York Knicks (15-21) beat the Seattle Supersonics (13-22) 111-93. David Lee grabbed 10 boards and scored 10 points for the Knicks and Jamal Crawford had 22 points, 8rebounds and 7 assists. The Knicks jumped to a 15 point lead after the first quarter to set the tone.
