Shane Doan scored a pair of goals and Yanic Perreault scored the game winner as the Phoenix Coyotes (18-20-2) overcame a three goal deficit to beat the Atlanta Thrashers (24-12-7) 5-4 in overtime. The Thrashers were up 4-1 in the third period before the Coyotes busted loose to tie the score. Marian Hossa scored twice for Atlanta
The Pittsburgh Penguins (18-15-6) scored three times in the second period and added an empty netter in the third to beat the Buffalo Sabres (29-9-3) 4-2. Evgeni Malkin had a goal and an assist as did Ryan Whitney and Jordan Staal for the Penguins. The score was tied at 2-2 in the second period before Malkin netted his 19th goal of the season with 3 seconds left on the clock.
Five goals in the second period blew the game wide open as the Nashville Predators (27-11-3) beat the Chicago Blackhawks (17-9-5) 8-3. Paul Kariya had a goal and three assists and Scott Hartnell had a pair of goals in the Predators win. Nashville also got a goal and an assist from Steve Sullivan and two assists from J.P Dumont, David Legwand and Jason Arnott. Tony Salmelainen scored two goals for Chicago.
The Colorado Avalanche (20-18-2) got a goal and two assists from Paul Stastny and Joe Sakic had a power play goal in their 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning (19-21-2). The Lightning tied the score 2-2 in the second period off a goal from Vincent Lecavalier but Tyler Arnason answered eight minutes later for the Avalanche. Lecavalier added an assist to his scoring line.
Matt Cooke scored two goals including the game winner in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks (23-18-1) beat the Edmonton Oilers (19-18-4) 3-2 in extra time. Daniel Sedin gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead early in the third period but the Oilers Petr Sykora evened the scoring with a goal in the 17th minute. Cooke scored the game winner 1:24 into overtime.
The Columbus Blue Jackets (16-21-4) shocked the Anaheim Ducks (28-9-6) with four goals in the final ten minutes of the third period to win 4-3. Rotislav Klesla scored a pair of goals for Columbus while Alexander Svitov assisted on three of the four goals for the Blue Jackets. Teemu Salanne had a goal and an assist in the Ducks loss. Anaheim was winning 3-0 in the third period before Klesla started the scoring for Columbus.
