Celebrated on the third Sunday of October, the Sweetest Day is a North Eastern American holiday that is celebrated by many. The holiday encourages everyone to give small gifts as tokens of gratitude to those that have been kind to you over the years. You can easily celebrate your truest friends and family that have stood by you in times thick and thin. The holiday encourages the giving of cards, candy, and flowers.
The holiday was first celebrated in 1921 and established in Cleveland where it proceeded to gain popularity. While giving gifts to friends and family has become most common with the holiday, it originally started for the elderly and the youth as a way to recognize their good deeds and encourage others to focus on kindness in everything they do.
