The New York Giants 23-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday marked the final game in Tiki Barber’s ten year NFL career. Barber played his entire NFL career with the Giants and set several team records as well as league marks.
In his final season with the Giants, Barber rushed for 1662 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also had 465 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Barber rushed for over 100 yards in a game nine times this season including a Giants single game record 234 yards against the Washington Redskins to help the Giants make the playoffs.
Barber set the Giants record for longest touchdown run from scrimmage in New York’s 2005 game against the Oakland Raiders when he ran 95-yards into the team’s record book. In 2005 Barber also established a club record for most yard rushing in a season with 1860, most rushing attempts with 357, and most total yards with 2390.
The New York Giants record book also has Barber atop the list of most rushing touchdowns, 55, most rushing yards in a career, 10,449 yards, most receptions, 586, most 1,000 yard seasons, 6, and most total yards in a game, 276 yards.
Tiki also put his name in the NFL record book when he became the first player in league history with 1,800 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season (2005). That same season Barber joined O.J. Simpson and Earl Campbell as the only three running backs to run for over 200 yards in a game on three separate occasions.
The Giants running back was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2005, 2006, and will be playing in Honolulu this year as well.
Barber announced that this would be his final season in the NFL earlier this year.
