Calvin Johnson, Ga. Tech’s Star Receiver, Enters NFL Draft

Ga. Tech’s Calvin Johnson will forego his senior year at the school and enter the NFL draft. Johnson, who won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best receiver, surprised almost no one when he announced his decision.

Making his announcement at the Ga. Tech football complex Johnson said “I had a great time here at Tech. It's been a tough decision. But I made the choice to leave.” Johnson had been voted to the AP All-America after his junior year produced 76 receptions for 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Johnson is projected to go within the first three selections of the draft and could easily be the number one pick overall. At 6-foot-5, 235-pounds Johnson runs a 4.4 40 and has a 45-inch vertical, characteristics and abilities that NFL scouts have raved about.

Joining Johnson in the NFL draft are Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell, and Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas.
