Beyonce has pulled out of Clint Eastwood’s “A Star Is Born” remake, citing the inability to nail down filming dates due to a busy work schedule. She was supposed to play a promising young star who falls in love with an older performer.
"I was looking forward to the production of 'A Star Is Born' and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood. For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together,” the pop star told E! News in a statement.
Jazz musician Esperanza Spauldin, who won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011, is said to be the top contender to replace Beyonce, but Variety reports Eastwood will not cast the female lead until the male lead is chosen. Favorites for the male character reportedly include Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm.
This will be the fourth version of “A Star Is Born.” The original film was released in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The 1954 remake starred Judy Garland and James Mason and the 1976 remake starred Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
