Toyota Recall Affects Over 7 Million Cars

Toyota Motors announced the worldwide recall of more than 7 million vehicles on Wednesday for a fire risk involving the driver’s side power window. The Japanese automaker said the window switch may not have been greased evenly during production, causing friction when the switch is used. Friction and the application of common lubricants could result in a fire. The switches have not caused any accidents or injuries, but Toyota has received more than 200 reports of problems with the buttons.

The recall includes a total of 7.43 million vehicles in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The affected vehicles were produced between 2005 and 2010. They include the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia, Auris, Vitz, Belta, Ractis, Ist, and Scion models xB and xD.

Toyota will notify affected American owners by mail. The company will grease the switches at no charge.
