A suspected terrorist camp in a mountainous region near the China/Pakistan border was raided by Chinese police on Friday resulting in the deaths of 18 believed terrorists and a police officer.
The shoot-out between Chinese police and members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) also resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects.
Chinese officials have labeled ETIM as one of the most violent terrorist groups in the region and have claimed they have ties to al-Qaeda.
ETIM is on the United States list of recognized terrorist groups.
