Earthquake Hits Off Indonesian Island of Java, Scores Killed

A major earthquake has rocked the Indonesian island of Java, leaving at least 33 dead and several hundred injured. Officials have already said they expect the death toll to rise significantly as homes and buildings have been buried in landslides triggered by the quake.

Reports have placed the earthquake as a magnitude 7.0, crumbling homes and buildings and causing serious damage to several more.

The epicenter of the quake was 70 miles off the coast of Tasikmalaya and led to a tsunami alert that was eventually revoked.

Rescue crews are currently digging through rubble to try and locate people who were buried under dirt and rocks.
