A faulty manufacturing part prompted Kellogg Company to issue a nationwide recall of nearly 3 million boxes of Bite Size Frosted Mini Wheats and Unfrosted Mini-Wheats. A company spokesperson said there is a small possibility the broken part may have left “fragments of flexible metal mesh” in the cereal.
The recall affects 2.8 million single serve bowls and 18 to 70 ounce cartons of mini-wheat cereal with best-before dates starting or ending with the letters KB, AP or FK. The dates range between April 1, 2013 and September 21, 2013.
"Although there have been no reports of any injuries, Kellogg initiated a voluntarily recall of certain packages of Mini-Wheats Bite Size cereal as a precautionary measure. At Kellogg, our number one priority is the quality and safety of our foods and we take this situation very seriously,” Kellogg spokesman Kris Charles said in a statement.
"We are reassured that our increased supply chain investments helped us to quickly identify the root cause and our preventative maintenance program helped us mitigate the impact," Charles added.
