Rosie O’Donnell may be the least of Donald Trump’s media battles.
Donald Trump and the producers of his hit show “The Apprentice” are facing an unscripted challenge in this, the show’s sixth season. Unfortunately for Trump the challenge doesn’t involve any of the contestants vying to work alongside the real estate mogul, rather it involves a past applicant who is suing Trump for age discrimination.
In a lawsuit filed last week Richard J. Hewett claimed he was left off the list of potential job candidates on the NBC show due to his age. Hewett, 49, told the AP “People watching it get the impression that if you want to work for a big organization like the Trump Organization you have to be young.”
Hewett had tried out for the show but his application was rejected. He believes it was more to do with his age than with his qualifications. His lawsuit alleges that Trump, along with the show’ producer, Mark Burnett, and three affiliated California companies are in violation of the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
Trump responded to the charges levied by Hewett saying, “"We have had very few people over a certain age apply to be on the show, if they did and we liked them, we would love to cast them on the show.”
Hewett, who lives in New Hampshire and works as a technology manager at commercial real estate company, is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit.
