Rockbrook Camp for Girls (http://www.rockbrookcamp.com/) held a reunion for women who attended the girls camp as campers and counselors during its 88-year history. A record number of alumni (197) attended the weekend event, some traveling from as far away as California and Massachusetts. The oldest camper attending was 97-year-old Louise Lykes Ferguson who was a camper at Rockbrook in 1926.
“The turnout was beyond our expectations! What a wonderful time sharing and experiencing the spirit of Rockbrook,” said Charlotte Page, who was the main organizer of the event.
“After spending time at the reunion and reliving my camp years, I think the gift of Rockbrook Camp might just be the best gift I have ever given my child,” former camper Cristie Smith explained.
“It was such a special experience to see women of all ages connect over their love for Rockbrook. Each person had amazing stories to share about their years at camp. They all left with smiles on their faces ready to come back soon,” Mandy Horton, the camp's Program Director, added.
Founded in 1921, Rockbrook (http://www.rockbrookcamp.com/) is a traditional summer sleepaway camp for girls with a program of horseback riding, sports, outdoor adventure, arts and crafts. The camp facility includes 210-acres of private forest, historic stone lodges, cabins, and equestrian fields.
Many former camp directors also attended the reunion, including: Jack and Phyllis Stevenson, Teed Poe, Jerry Stone, Nath Thompson, and current directors, Sarah and Jeff Carter.
Alumnae attending the camp reunion enjoyed many camp activities like archery, crafts, swimming, hiking, and ropes course climbing. The "Spirit Fire" campfire, a tradition dating to the camp's earliest years, was a highlight of the event.
