Hilary Swank, the two-time Oscar Award winning actress for “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby”, was presented with the ultimate sign of LA acceptance on Monday. Bestowed with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Swank became the 2325th such personality to earn the honor.
With spots on hit TV shows like “Growing Pains,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Beverly Hills 90210” Swank worked her way up the Hollywood ladder and landed the role of Brandon Teena in “Boys Don’t Cry,” a role in which she played a transgender teen that is murdered. She walked away from the Academy Awards in 2000 with the best actress Oscar Award for her portrayal in that movie.
Five years latter Swank struck Oscar again for her role in the Clint Eastwood directed film “Million Dollar Baby.” Her performance as Maggie Fitzgerald helped the movie win Best Director, for Eastwood; Best Picture; and best supporting actor for Morgan Freeman.
Swank is currently starring in the film “Freedom Writers,” a true story about an English teacher who inspires her inner-city students to great heights.
At the dedication ceremony where Swank was presented with her star the 32-year-old actress held back tears describing how she had traveled to Hollywood with her mother 16 years ago with nothing more than the $75 they had in their pocket.
