Close-Up Talk Radio spotlights Col. George Satterthwaite II (Ret.)
Fort Washington, MD – With all of the accolades Colonel George Satterthwaite amassed over his illustrious career, he maintains a quite humble sentiment about his accomplishments.
“I’m just a loyal citizen who has done his job,” says the retired Satterthwaite. In his 30 years with the United States Army, Satterthwaite traveled across the world to serve his nation proudly.
Satterthwaite was born in Costa Rica, to a US State Department of Foreign Service family. His formative years were spent under the influence of this type of life spanning Central and South America, Washington DC, England, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany, France and back to Washington DC.
Satterthwaite acquired a sense of duty to his country at a young age. After earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, he knew that serving his country was the next step with great influence during the European family assignments where his father was the first high-level political advisor to the US European Command.
Entering the US Army as a distinguished military graduate in the regular Army in 1957 and serving until retirement in 1987, Satterthwaite experienced and accomplished a great deal through the eyes of a serviceman. He served through the “war of nerves” as he describes the Cold War, while also serving multiple tours in Vietnam and Korea, where he achieved Colonel status.
Satterthwaite earned a highly impressive list of medals during his career including the Cold War Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, and perhaps his proudest achievement earning the Legion of Merit. He also earned the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal and the SAR War Service Medal.
“Through my service years, I was able to experience many great places across the world,” says Satterthwaite. Upon his retirement, Satterthwaite worked with several security companies that coincided with the Defense department.
Satterthwaite is an extremely proud father and grandfather. He’s a photography hobbyist who enjoys capturing those great moments on camera. In his commitment to community, Satterthwaite serves on both the Alumni Executive Board of the Sidwell Friends School and the Piscataway Hills Citizens Association.
Col. George Satterthwaite II (Ret.) will be featured with a two-part interview with Doug Llewelyn at www.blogtalkradio.com/closeuptalkradio. Airdates for the show are October 15th and October 22nd. Both shows will air at 2pm EST on their respective dates.
