Smail Auto Group Continues It’s Campaign to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Smail Auto Group is not only making a visual statement, they are standing behind their message by donating $100 for every new and used vehicle sold at their dealerships throughout the month of October.

Donations will be distributed to Magee Womens Research Institute & Foundation; the development of a Breast Care Center at Excela Square at Norwin; and also Westmoreland Walks, Inc. “Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer.”

Last October, the auto group launched the very first “Smail Auto Group Cares” campaign by covering their buildings with over 5,000 square feet of pink vinyl and raising over $50,000 for local breast cancer awareness, prevention and research organizations.

This effort had such an impact on the community, that this year, Westmoreland Walks was inspired to start “Route 30 Thinks Pink” – a campaign that encourages all businesses along Route 30 to show their support and raise awareness by turning their establishments pink for the month.

“We were amazed by the attention and support we got last year when we started this campaign, and this year we are excited that so many other businesses along Route 30 have joined in to support breast cancer awareness, “ said Lindsey Smail. “It’s something that my family is passionate about and we are honored to partner with such great breast cancer research and support organizations,” she goes on to say.

Breast cancer has touched the Smail family on a personal level, with two family members, Kathy (Smail) Johnson and Kelly Smail, both having battled the disease. As breast cancer survivors, they agree that awareness and early detection are vitally important. “It is so important for us to help relay the message that early detection is key,” states Kathy. “If our pink ribbon splashed buildings remind even one woman to get a mammogram or perform a self-exam, we have achieved our goal,” Kelly goes on to say.

Smail Auto Group employees will also be raising money for the cause. Throughout the month, there will be two “Wear Pink” days, where they can donate money and stray from the every day uniform. In addition, select employees walked with the Smail team for the Westmoreland Walks, Inc. “Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer” event.

Smail customers have also shown overwhelming support by passing along this important message by word of mouth and supporting the auto group on social media. Donations may be made throughout October, at all Smail Auto Group locations.

While Smail Auto Group’s pink ribbon splashed buildings may catch your eye, the Smail family and their employees are hoping that the project not only gets attention for it’s outward appearance, but more importantly for what it represents: A commitment to raising awareness and funds to fight a disease that has touched the lives of so many women and families in our community.
