While expressing some sympathy for the Material Girl, Angelina Jolie told a French magazine that Madonna took a risk when she adopted a child from a country with unclear adoption laws.
Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have been trying to sort out the media circus that has surrounded them since they left the African country of Malawi with 1-year-old David Banda. The couple have taken shots from human rights groups and media outlets for using their star power to circumnavigate the adoption laws of Malawi.
While David has been living with his new parents since October the backlash has yet to die down.
Angelina Jolie has expressed shock surrounding the negative attention Madonna has received but did admit that the Material Girl should have steered clear of adopting from a country with unclear laws. Jolie told a French magazine “In that country, there isn't really a legal framework for adopting. Personally, I prefer to stay on the side of the law.
The 31-year-old Jolie has three children, Maddox, a five-year-old boy adopted from Cambodia; Zahara, two-years-old and from Ethiopia; and Shiloh, a baby daughter born to her and partner Brad Pitt in May.
Jolie has recently said that she is interested in having a large family with as many as ten children.
