Emmanuelle Star Sylvia Kristel Dies

Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel, who is perhaps best known for her role in erotic films like Emmanuelle and Lady Chatterley’s Lover, has died at the age of 60. Kristel suffered a stroke three months ago and had been battling cancer.

"She died during the night during her sleep," her agent told AFP on Thursday.

Kristel starred in more than 50 international films. Her first big break came with her role in Emmanuelle in 1974. The French film became one of the first erotic films to be allowed in mainstream theaters. Kristel appeared in several Emmanuelle sequels. Her other film credits include Lady Chatterly’s Lover, Mata Hari, Private Lessons and The Fifth Musketeer.

Kristel is survived by her son Arthur with Belgian author Hugo Claus, and her partner, Peter Brul.
