New College Drinking Danger

An incident on a university campus has people talking about the alcohol enema trend which may have led to one student’s .45 blood alcohol level.

A recent incident at the University of Tennessee has driven home the ongoing dangers of college drinking and alcohol poisoning. A student was admitted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in late September after he arrived at the hospital unconscious and with a blood-alcohol content of .45 -- five times the legal limit.

After the incident it was reported that the student achieved the blood alcohol level via an alcohol enema. This may seem like extreme lengths to go to in order to get drunk, but it’s not an isolated incident. In fact the practice is common enough that it even has the distasteful nickname of “butt chugging.”

The student at the center of the incident denies he ever participated in the practice. The student told police he drank several beers and a significant amount of boxed wine and blacked out at the Pi Kappa Alpha house. He said he didn't remember anything until waking up in the hospital. Police aren't buying that story though. They found blood around the Pi Kappa Alpha house including in the bathroom and the toilet and found injuries to the student’s rectum. The fraternity has been penalized for the incident and several partygoers were cited for underage drinking. The student has recovered and returned to class.
