With the jet black hair and eccentric clothing ensembles Yvonne De Carlo was the matriarch of Goth as Lily Munster in the 1964-66 comedy “The Munsters.” De Carlo passed away on Monday of natural causes, she was 84.
De Carlo is best remembered as the wife of square headed Herman Munster and mother to Eddie Wolfgang Munster and Marilyn Munster of Mockingbird Lane. The show received a Golden Globe nomination in 1965 for Best TV Show.
She won a Fantafestival Film Award for Best Actress in1988’s American Gothic. De Carlo appeared in the television show “Burke’s Law” in 1963, the same show that captured the Golden Globe in 1965.
De Carlo also played the role of Moses’ wife Sephora in the classic “Ten Commandments.”
In 1995 she made a cameo appearance on the television movie Here Come the Munsters with Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster), Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster), and Pat Priest (Marilyn Munster). Fred Gwynne, who played Herman Munster, passed away in 1993. Al Lewis died in February of 2006.
