2009 U.S. Open Round Two Results: Svetlana Kuznetsova Advances into Third with Easy Win Over Anastasija Sevastova

Svetlana Kuznetsova continued her quest for a third Grand Slam singles title on Wednesday, needing just over an hour to knock off Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the 2009 U.S. Open.

Kuznetsova finished with five aces and 27 winners in the match to overcome 30 unforced errors. The Russian controlled much of the match with her serve as she collected points on 65 percent of her first serves put in play and 70 percent of her second serves.

Kuznetsova has two Grand Slam singles title to her credit, a U.S. Open victory in 2004 and a French open title earned earlier this year. The Russian reached the finals of the French Open in 2006 before falling to Justine Henin and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2005 and 2009 and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
