Andy Roddick continued his pursuit for a second U.S. Open singles title on Thursday with an impressive straight set victory over Marc Gicquel 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the third round at the year’s final Grand Slam event.
Roddick once again used a dominant serve to control match, hammering out 13 aces while giving Gicquel just one chance to break serve, something he was unable to do. In contrast Roddick broke Gicquel on four of five opportunities and committed just 10 unforced errors.
Roddick has one Grand Slam singles title, the 2003 U.S. Open, while he has reached three Wimbledon finals and the U.S. Open finals in 2006, all three finals losses came at the hands of Roger Federer.
