Novak Djokovic needed just under two hours to move into the third round at the 2009 U.S. Open, taking care of Australia’s Carsten Ball in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday night.
Djokovic played controlled tennis throughout the match, committing just 18 unforced errors and one double fault while Ball looked determined to hand the match over, committing seven double faults and 45 unforced errors.
Djokovic has won one Grand Slam singles title, the 2008 Australian Open and he reached the finals at the 2007 U.S. Open but fell to Roger Federer.
