Super Bowl Features $500,000 Turf; Dolphins Stadium Prepares for SB XLI

Primped and pampered for the past two years, Princess 77 is now ready to be destroyed by 300 pound centers and sliced by cutting running backs. The $500,000 turf grown by Phillip Jennings of Riddleville, Ga. has arrived at Dolphin Stadium and over the next three days will be introduced to its final resting spot.

Princess 77 is a hybrid turf that was designed to handle the wear and tear administered by the two teams playing in Super Bowl XLI.

It took more than 45 trucks to transport the carefully rolled and packed sod to Dolphins Stadium. The arrival of the trucks was strategically mapped out for 12 at a time so as not to have the grass sit to long in the truck. Unloading the truck and placing the diva-esque turf in place will be the job of up to 36 men.

The turf has some time to get familiar with its surrounding before the Feb. 4 Super Bowl.

Just who will have the luxury of playing on the half-million dollar lawn is still up in the air. Saturday’s games will match Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts against Steve McNair and the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC while the NFC match-up features Jeff Garcia and the Philadelphia Eagles against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

Both the Ravens and the Saints will be playing at home.

Sunday’s match-ups involve Shaun Alexander and the Seattle Seahawks against Thomas Jones and the Chicago Bears in the NFC, the AFC match-up is Tom Brady and the New England Patriots facing LaDainian Tomlinson and the San Diego Chargers.

Chicago and San Diego will be hosting their games.
