Flavia Pennetta has continued to breeze through the early rounds at the 2009 U.S. Open, this time dropping Aleksandra Wozniak in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to advance into the fourth round at the year’s final Grand Slam event.
Pennetta needed just 52 minutes to dispatch Wozniak as she won 85 percent of her fist serves put in play and collected 13 winners compared to a dismal service game from the Canadian which produced winners on just 25 percent of her first serve offerings and three winners all match.
Pennetta is yet to win a Grand Slam singles title but she did reach the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open last year. The Italian has reached the fourth round at Wimbledon twice, in 2005 and 2006 and reached the fourth round at the French Open in 2008.
