A Los Angeles Fire Department official confirmed that two bodies had been recovered after a small business jet crashed shortly after takeoff from the Van Nuys airport.
The Cessna Citation was carrying two crew members when it crashed just north of the airfield.
An FAA spokesman stated that the plane had taken off from the airport around 10:55 a.m. en route to Long Beach. Moments later the pilot contacted the airport and indicated that he needed to return but did not give a reason.
