As the rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) rise among active and recently retired military personnel, many groups are stepping in to help. One such group is Battling Bare, Inc., which provides, “a network of support for the spouses, children and family members who silently struggle to carry the burden of PTSD with their beloved service members.”
Their Facebook page, Twitter account and website (battlingbare.org) focus on creating a safe place to band together and share stories, raise awareness about PTSD and help create positive programs of true healing for families. The group is dedicated to eradicating the stigma around PTSD and to helping the family as a whole achieve the healing they deserve.
This private organization invites wives, girlfriends, children and teens to show support by submitting a photo. Many of the pictures feature individuals holding signs or with messages written on their bodies that express how and why they’re getting involved.
