Venus Williams continued her pursuit for a third U.S. Open singles title, getting past Magdalena Rybarikova in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 on Saturday to move into the fourth round of this year’s final Grand Slam event.
Venus wasn’t exactly sharp but certainly took advantage of the opportunities presented to her as she broke Rybarikova on four of her five chances. In contrast, Rybarikova was presented six break point opportunities but capitalized on just one.
Venus Williams has seven Grand Slam singles titles, five of them at Wimbledon and another two at the U.S. Open. The American has reached the finals at the Australian Open and the French Open but lost to her sister, Serena Williams, in both of those Grand Slam finals.
