Jimmy Clausen got his 2009 season off to a strong start as the junior quarterback finished 15/18 for 315 yards and four touchdowns, sophomore receiver Michael Floyd finished with four receptions for 189 yards and three TDs and the #24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish defense forced three turnovers in a 35-0 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday.
Clausen put the Irish on the board in the first quarter with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph and that 7-0 advantage held into the second quarter. That advantage was boosted to14-0 early in the second when Clausen hooked up with Floyd on a 24-yard touchdown pass and three minutes later the pair celebrated a 70-yard touchdown pass to put the score at 21-0. Notre Dame then found the endzone on the ground when Armando Allen Jr. punched one in from 1-yard out and the Irish were up 28-0 at the break.
Notre Dame came out after the half and showed no signs of letting up as Clausen found Floyd on an 88-yard touchdown pass to bury the Wolf Pack in a 35-0 hole.
The Notre Dame offense rolled up 510 yards, picking up 178 yards on the ground with Allen leading all Irish running backs with 72 yards on 15 carried.
