Max Hall found a wide open McKay Jacobson in the back of the endzone for a 7-yard touchdown with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift the #20 BYU Cougars to a stunning 14-13 victory over the #3 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night.
Hall finished the night 26/38 for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns to spark the upset but the Cougars defense certainly played their part, limiting the high-octane Sooners offense to just 265 yards and one touchdown. Oklahoma also lost reigning Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford after the quarterback was knocked out of the game in the closing seconds of the first half when he injured his throwing shoulder.
Bradford had his Sooners in front early after connecting with Ryan Broyles on an 8-yard TD toss in the first quarter but Hall managed to even the score in the closing minutes of the second quarter when he found Andrew George on a 5-yard touchdown pass. The Sooners did go into the break with a 10-7 lead though as Jimmy Stevens hit a 35-yard field goal to give Oklahoma some momentum.
After a scoreless third quarter Stevens pushed the Sooners lead to 13-7 when he kicked a 22-yard field goal but that lead was erased when Hall hit Jacobson with the game-winner with 3:03 on the clock. Stevens had a shot to win the game for Oklahoma but his 54-yard field goal attempt with 54 seconds left fell short.
