Colts stuff Ravens 15-6; Move on to AFC Championship Game
In the regular season the Indianapolis Colts defense gave up 332.5 yards per game, featured the worst rushing defense in the league, and allowed 22.5 points per contest- the second most in the AFC. After two games in the AFC playoffs the Colts defense has allowed 370 yards of total offense, 127 yards rushing and a total of 14 points
The Colts defense limited the Ravens to 244 yards of offense while once again shutting down the rushing game allowing just 83 yards on the ground, an area most experts felt would keep Indianapolis out of any serious bid for the Super Bowl.
While the defense of the Colts stepped it up for the second consecutive week, Adam Vinatieri stepped into the spotlight. The Indianapolis kicker booted five field goals to account for all of the Colts points.
Indianapolis held a 9-3 advantage at the half after Vinatieri connected on field goals of 23, 42, and 51 yards.
It was a very mediocre day for both quarterbacks on the field. Peyton Manning completed 15/30 pass attempts for 170 yards for Indy, but he was also picked off twice. Steve McNair didn’t fair much better for the Ravens, completing 18/29 passes for 173 yards and two interceptions.
The Ravens turned the ball over four times in the loss.
Indy now awaits the winner of Sunday’s game between the San Diego Chargers and the New England Patriots. If the Patriots upset the Chargers, the AFC Title Game will be played in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
