Roger Federer stayed on track for his sixth straight U.S. Open title and his 16th Grand Slam singles title, cruising past Tommy Robredo in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 on Monday to advance into the quarterfinals of the year’s final Grand Sam event.
Federer finished with nine aces in the match and collected 35 winners, never allowing Robredo to break his serve. In comparison, Robredo committed 30 unforced errors and manage just 17 winners in the match while having his serve broke five times.
Federer recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam as he has won Wimbledon six times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
