The Florida Gators claimed the #1 ranking in the AP Top 25 this week after beating Arkansas 79-72 on Tuesday and following that up with an 84-50 pounding of South Carolina on Saturday. The Gators only game this week comes on Saturday when they take on SEC Foe Mississippi.
Jumping up one spot to #2 in the AP voting this week is the Wisconsin Badgers. A huge 72-69 win over then #5 Ohio State and a six-point win over Northwestern on Saturday earned the Badgers several votes for number one. On the schedule this week is Purdue on Wednesday and Illinois on Saturday.
The UCLA Bruins narrow 65-64 victory over USC on Saturday moved them up to #3 in the polls. The Bruins will take on Arizona State on Thursday and then face a big PAC 10 challenge when they take on the #11 Arizona Wildcats on Saturday.
The North Carolina Tar Heels did what many teams have done this year; they lost their number one ranking the same week they earned it. The Tar Heels dropped from #1 to #4 after losing to the new #23 Virginia Tech Hokies 94-88 on Saturday. Earlier in the week the Tar Heels had no problems with Virginia, beating the Cavaliers 79-69. The week ahead only gets tougher for NC as they take on #19 Clemson on Wednesday and then face Georgia Tech on Saturday.
After beating then #9 Oklahoma State by 30 on Wednesday and squeaking by Iowa State 68-64 on Saturday the Kansas Jayhawks inched up one spot to #5 in the AP Top 25 voting. The Jayhawks will face Missouri on Monday and then take on Texas Tech on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh Panthers victory over DePaul on Wednesday and five-point win over Georgetown on Saturday gave them the #6 spot in this week’s AP Top 25. The Panthers have the UConn Huskies this week on Tuesday and then face the #24 Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday.
With their three-point loss to #2 Wisconsin on Tuesday and a narrow 68-66 victory over then #16 Tennessee on Saturday the Ohio State Buckeyes fell two spots to land at #7 this week. The Buckeyes will take on Northwestern on Wednesday and then face Iowa on Saturday.
The Aggies of Texas A&M remained #8 this week after Tuesday’s ten-point win over Baylor and Saturday’s 18-point blowout of Colorado. Texas A&M will face a challenge in the #12 Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday.
Moving up six spots in the AP Top 25 this week was new #9 Oregon. The Ducks had a strong week with wins over Arizona State on Thursday and then a surprise two-point win over Arizona on Sunday. Oregon will face Stanford on Thursday and then take on California this Saturday.
Alabama jumped another four spots to take the #10 spot in AP voters’ minds after beating the LSU Tigers 71-61 on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide will take on Vanderbilt on Wednesday and then face Georgia on Saturday in a pair of SEC match-ups.
