Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke Charvet says a recent physical helped her doctors uncover a serious health problem. The mom of four reveals a nodule on her thyroid turned out to be cancer.
"You never think some tiny nodule ... I never ever, ever thought I was going to get that phone call with bad news,” she admits in a new video on The ModernMom Youtube channel.
"Here's the way I see it: I'm just going to make a positive out of this negative thing. I'm going to be a really good patient and do everything I need to do,” says the 41-year-old.
"I need to have thyroid surgery and a thyroidectomy, which means I'm going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck," she explains. "I don't get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share it, because it's going to be pretty much dead center. I don't want anybody to read about it and get the wrong idea, or think that I'm sick, because I'm not."
"I'm going to be fine. And I feel really really strong. Doctors say this is a good kind of cancer to have. Good cancer! That sounds so crazy. But my doctor did tell me this is a happily-ever-after ending kind of thing. I'm going fight through this,” Burke-Charvet adds.
