Mark Wahlberg Will Star In Transformers 4, Michael Bay Confirms

In a press release posted on his official website this week, director Michael Bay confirmed Mark Wahlberg has been cast in the fourth installment of Transformers. Wahlberg replaces Shia LaBeouf, who had the lead role in the first three Transformers films.

“An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” Bay said.

Bay and Wahlberg recently worked together on Pain and Gain, which is set to his theaters next spring. “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him,” added Bay.

The first three Transformers films were huge successes. The first Transformers, which was released in 2007, earned over $700 million worldwide. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen followed in 2009 with more than $830 million in worldwide earnings. The most recent installment, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, raked in more than $1 billion worldwide.

Filming on Transformers 4 will begin next spring. It will hit theaters in June 2014.
