2009 U.S. Open Quarterfinals Results: Kim Clijsters Punches Ticket to Semifinals with Straight Set Win Over Na Li

Kim Clijsters has continued her stunning run through the 2009 U.S. Open as the unranked 26-year-old breezed past China’s Na Li in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in Tuesday’s quarterfinals match to reach the semifinals.

Clijsters managed to put 73 percent of her first serves in play and won 68 percent of those offerings. In comparison Na was able to put 80 percent of her first serves in play but managed to score points on just 54 percent of those. The Belgian also broke Na’s serve on four of ten chances while sacrificing her own service game just once. The real problem for Na was in unforced errors as she couldn’t overcome the 41 she committed in the match.

Clijsters, the former world’s number one, captured her only Grand Slam singles title at the U.S. Open in 2005 after beating Mary Pierce. She has reached the finals at the French Open twice and the Australian Open once.
