Kyle Prater, the nation’s top high school wide receiver, committed to the USC Trojans late last week, according to Rivals.com.
Prater, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound receiver from Proviso West (Hillside, IL), committed to head coach Pete Carroll and his Southern California staff on Wednesday.
"The coaching staff (was the reason) more than anything, and, after taking all my other visits, the trip to USC was the nail in the coffin," Prater said in his press conference. "I felt that because of my relationship with the coaches and the players, it's a place that I had to be.
"When I sat down with Coach Carroll, Coach Morton and Coach Norton the day I was leaving, we were just talking about the visit and the practice, it was just right," continued Prater.
Prater selected Southern Cal over 43 other scholarship offers, including Oklahoma, Illinois, Tennessee and Notre Dame.
Prater becomes the second five-star wide receiver to commit to USC in the past month, joining 5-foot-11 star athlete D.J. Morgan (Taft/Woodland Hills, CA). USC already has 14 commitments, including Prater, 10 of which are four or five star prospects.
The announcement came just one day after Prater was moved up to No. 2 overall in the Rivals250 high school football rankings, which also named him the nation’s top receiver. In one month, Prater moved from No. 19 to No. 4 to No. 2 overall.
Last season, Prater had 60 receptions for 948 yards and nine touchdowns for Proviso West.
