Dancing With The Stars Double Elimination: Kirstie Alley And Gilles Marini Fall Short Of Semi-Finals

Two more Dancing with the Stars All-Star hopefuls were forced to say goodbye last night in another double elimination. Fan votes combined with Monday’s scores and last week’s scores sent Kristie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy packing first.

"The second time around was very special to me," Alley said after her elimination. "To be asked, first of all, to come back was an honor...I learned more about dancing, believe it or not. I wanted to thank Maks because he's so patient with me and so helpful...I want to thank our fans. I love you!"

The second ouster was surprising; longtime frontrunner Gilles Marini got the boot. "In the end, it was just an incredible experience and I had the chance to do it twice," he said. “I tried my very best.”

Speaking to Us Weekly magazine after the show, Marini blamed his shocking elimination on his low scores from the swing marathon two weeks ago. "Even if I had scored three 10s on Monday's show I wouldn't be (going to the semi-finals). The marathon just did me in,” he explained.

"One thing I have is a work ethic. I'll work until I drop dead. . . [but] sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you work," he added. “Sometimes it doesn't take just hard work, it takes something else, and that's something else I will have to find in my life because hard work just doesn't cut it sometimes."

The four stars moving on to the semi-finals are Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, Apolo Ohno, Emmitt Smith and Shawn Johnson.
