James McAdoo, one of the nation’s top HS underclassmen basketball prospects, committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday.
McAdoo, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound power forward from Norfolk (VA) Christian School, announced his decision to the UNC program after a great visit on campus, according to Rivals.com. "They showed me what I would fit in two or three years down the road," he said. "They want me to come in and play the four and maybe a little three. They don't want me to play center or point guard, and that was really all I needed to hear."
"I had it in my mind that if I had to pick a school, it would have been North Carolina because of my relationship with the program," said McAdoo. "This weekend solidified it, but it wasn't just this visit that impressed me. I've been to North Carolina before and have seen how well they treat me and my family."
McAdoo, the No. 6 prospect in the class of 2011, was also considering Duke and Virginia. He helped the USA U-16 national team win a gold medal in the Games of the Americas in Argentina. He later tore a tendon in his shoulder and missing the July evaluation period.
McAdoo, the top power forward in the class, joins shooting 6-foot-5 small forward P.J. Hairston as North Carolina’s 2011 recruiting class.
