NHL Scores from Jan. 16; Marian Hossa, Roberto Luongo, Martin Brodeur, and Mike Comrie lead their teams to wins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (20-17-7) broke a 2-2 tie with three goals in the third period to beat the New York Islanders (21-21-4) 5-2. Sidney Crosby scored a pair of goals in the deciding period while Erik Christensen had two goals and an assist in the Penguins win.

Marian Hossa continued his assault on NHL goalies with a hat-trick and Ilya Kovalchuk added two assists as the Atlanta Thrashers (26-14-8) beat the Los Angeles Kings (16-26-6) 6-2. Alexander Frolov put the Kings in front 1-0 in the first period but the Thrashers responded with three straight goals to take the lead.

Jason Chimera scored mid-way through the overtime period to give the Columbus Blue Jackets (17-24-5) a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks (17-22-7). Sergei Federov put the Blue Jackets on the board with a first period goal. Tuomo Ruutu had two assists for the Blackhawks.

Roberto Luongo stopped all 30 shots he faced to give the Vancouver Canucks (26-19-1) a 4-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens (25-17-5). Kevin Bieksa assisted on two goals for the Canucks while Ryan Kesler added two assists of his own.

Brad Lukowich scored a goal in the first period and it was all the New Jersey Devils (28-14-4) needed as Martin Brodeur stopped all 26 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over the New York Rangers (23-20-4). The Devils skated the entire night without a penalty.

The Ottawa Senators (27-19-2) won their fifth straight after beating the Washington Capitals (19-20-7) 5-2. Mike Comrie scored a pair of goals for the Senators and Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist in the win. Steve Eminger scored a goal and had an assist for Washington.

Two third period goals lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs (21-20-6) past the Tampa Bay Lightning (24-22-2) 4-2. Johnny Pohl scored the game-tying goal for the Leafs with 7 seconds remaining in the second period and Alexander Steen scored the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes remaining in the third to give Toronto the win.

Justin Williams scored a power play goal two minutes into overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes (25-18-5) a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers (17-21-10). Erik Cole had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. The Panthers were up 2-1 in the third period before Cole scored the evener with under seven minutes remaining.

The Edmonton Oilers (22-20-4) scored a pair of power play goals to beat the Minnesota Wild (24-20-3) 2-1. Dwayne Roloson stopped 28 shots in goal for the Oilers while Joffrey Lupul and Marc-Andre Bergeron each scored. Wes Walz had the only goal for the Wild.

The St. Louis Blues (17-21-8) scored the first five goals, four in the second period, to beat the Anaheim Ducks (30-10-8) 6-2. Eric Brewer had a goal and two assists Radek Dvorak had three assists for the Blues. Petr Cajanek finished the night with a goal and an assist for St.Louis. Teemu Selanne had a power play goal for the Ducks.
