With 30 years' experience in the financial services industry, Lyons oversees MF Global's daily operations in North America. The appointment took effect immediately.
Lyons previously was COO at Watermill Trading LLC and spent 21 years with Bear, Stearns & Co., including COO and finance chief for its global equities division.
Shares of MF Global rose 15 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $7.19 a share at Tuesday’s close.
