The Oklahoma Sooners suffered another serious blow to their hopes of returning to the National Championship game after learning that tight end Jermaine Gresham will miss the remainder of the season following surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.
Gresham, who opted to return to the Sooners for his junior season despite being projected as a top pick in the NFL draft, is expected to need at least five months to recover from Tuesday’s surgery.
The second-team All-America from a year ago had been the Sooners top returning receiver after a 2008 campaign that produced 66 receptions for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Oklahoma is already reeling from their 14-13 loss to BYU in week one, a loss that cost them Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford who injured his right shoulder just before halftime. Bradford is expected to miss at least two weeks.
