U.S. Open 2009 Quarterfinals Results: Roger Federer into Semifinals after Battling Past Robin Soderling in Four Sets

Roger Federer jumped to a two set lead and then found himself in a battle but the Swiss star managed to battle past Sweden’s Robin Soderling in four sets 6-0, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (8-6) to reach the semifinals of the 2009 U.S. Open and stay in line for his 16th career Grand Slam singles title.

Federer hammered out 28 aces in the match and never surrendered a break point while delivering 64 winners in the match. Soderling attempted to fight his way back and had plenty of support from the crowd but his 44 unforced errors and inability to break Federer’s serve was too much to overcome.

Federer recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam as he has won Wimbledon six times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
